67 RS no power to rear harness

Coming to the final stages of 2 yr resto.. car painted, drive train completed, wire harnesses in, front rs light working, all glass in... Im thinking I can actually see the finish line... .... until I attached the rear harness .

Here is where Im at.
Instr cluster and console are not installed. I get power in and out of brake switch. flasher turn on front lights only. I have no power from the under dash harness rear connector. Fuses are all fine. New AW rear harness. Is this related to the instr/console not being installed or do I have a bigger issue? Any help would be appreciated..

Re: 67 rs no power to rear harness

Is the ground wire in trunk grounded? Doesn't explain no power to connector, but I just got finished with a complete resto and had no power to rear of car and it was the ground wire by the trunk latch. Hooked it up and everything worked.

Re: 67 rs no power to rear harness

There should be a short wire with an eyelet coming out of the harness in between the taillights. It bolts to the trunk latch support.

nope in between taillight are the connectors for fuel sending unit and license plate light... no ground wire from harness. I'll look again later when I get home and I'm going to also check my old GM harness because I don't remember a ground on that one either.

Re: 67 rs no power to rear harness

I would unplug the rear harness and stick a test light in the pigtail from the front harness that would plug into rear. If you get power on that then I would think your problem is ground on the rear harness.

Re: 67 rs no power to rear harness

When I put the AAW rear harness in my car I had 6 x individual ground leads that connected to the trunk latch support. I have not gotten to the stage where I am ready to apply power or I would go check it out and provide feedback. I do remember that the drawing had all the ground leads for the side marker and tail lights connected together by a terminal lug and the main ground for the rear harness all attaching at the same location in the trunk.

Re: 67 rs no power to rear harness

Pigtail connector which connects to rear connector has no power.. which is the fustrating part. If it had power but then no tail lights I would search for a ground issue. If I can figure out this pigtail power it would be half the battle. Im going to try to connect instrument cluster and see if that helps close some darn loop. its a love hate relationship with this car.... part of the fun I guess

Re: 67 rs no power to rear harness

problem solved! It turned out to the turn signal harness. It must of gotten damaged during the restoration because I found the contacts under the steering wheel broken up. I changed the entire mechanism with wiring and I now have my tail lights, 4way & r/L signals and reverse lights working.
thanks everyone for your suggestions..
