fuel gauge oddity

ive had two different aftermarket fuel gauges in my 69 since i took out the original for a tach install.one stewart warner, and one auto meter. with both gauges every once in a while the gauge will turn whiteish and become hard to read through the lens.i cannot figure this out and its is really starting to me off. does anybody have any idea what could be causing this?? other than that gauge works perfectly.

Re: fuel gauge oddity

What model number of gauges? If the gauges are LCD, it could be an over voltage problem, maybe a alternator regulator problem, or a flaky ground for the return circuit of the gauge package.

Re: fuel gauge oddity

My autometer gauges occaiaionally get condensation on the back sides of the lenses. I turn on the heater and it goes away.
