Help with fuse box/light switch

I'm having a problem getting my dash lights to work.(all of the wiring is new repo harnesses) When I put a test light on the small fuse on the bottom of the fuse box that says inst. lamps, I get no power at all if the car is off or running. Even if the fuse was blown, shouldn't I be able to get power to one side of the fuse holder? Could it be my light switch is bad? I would think I would still get power to the fuse even if the switch was bad. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks, John

Re: Help with fuse box/light switch

Yes - the dash light circuit is fed through the headlight switch. The fuse is downstream from the switch. If that part of your headlight switch is bad you will not get power to the fuse.

Twisting the headlight knob dims & brightens the dash lights and I'll assume you've already tried that. Try jiggling the knob and see if you get juice. Those old rheostats can get dirty.
