Classic Update engine wiring

I have a msd 6al, blaster 2 and pro billet dist. My question is about the

wires that connect to the coil. Was told by Don Bock the pink wire from

bulkhead connects to small red on 6al. AAW istructions show pink to batt

location on coil and white from bulkhead to tach location on coil. I have

routed the wires as instructions show. The MSD instuctions show the

orange from box to + side of coil and the black to neg. side. So if the pink

goes to + side of coil, does the small red from 6al also connect to + side

of coil? Am I understanding this correctly? When done, I will have white


tach wire and black from 6al to the neg. side of coil and pink,orange and

red to the + side. Just want to confirm before trimming wires back.

I thought the coil terminals came from the 6AL box and not the car's wiring harness.

Did your 6AL come with instructions?

From the car's wiring harness I should think you just need: 12+ (constant), NEG and switched ignition. The box is triggered via a number of different methods (mag, points, etc.), but once again those connections would come from the 6AL and not the engine's wiring.

Read the MSD 6AL literature before proceeding.

That was good advice Michael. Yes I do have the MSD manual but I was only looking at the wiring diagram. The text says the only wire that connects to coil + is the orange and the only wire to neg. is the black. Much more clear to me now. Thanks Michael for getting me back on the right path.

Correct, coil is connected to the box.
Use the supplied short purple jumpers, as stored in the glovebox, to bypass the box in case the box decides to go South for the winter.

I have the same set up and am in the process of rewiring my car. The tach lead cannot go right to your coil because its MSD..Multi Spark Distribution. Meaning it throws spark up to 3 times for every cylinder up to 3000 RPM. Your MSD box should have a tach lead on it that you need to tie into.
