67 total re-wiring info needed

I am in the process of re-wiring my 67 with the American Autowire kit. It is complete front to back. Iam not using any wiring except what is in the steering column.
Question is, will I need any relays?
The Alt has its internal regulator.

Depends on what you are putting on your car.

Relays:
Horn
Radiator Fans
Electric Fuel Pump

The horn relay might be on the fuse block. I dont know much about the AAW wiring harness.

There are 2 flasher relays, 1 for the blinkers, 1 for the flashers.

Joel, if you are installing the Classic Update kit, the horn relay(provided in kit) plugs into dash harness pigtail. As Mike said, depends on what you are installing...high amp rad.fan ect.

The vintage air comes with its own relays.

Re: 67 total re-wiring info needed

The turn/emergency flasher relays will be installed on the new fuse block in your kit. The kit, if it is AAW's classic update series will have all the needed wiring to hook up your stereo head piece including power antena/batt./ign,etc. Like previously mentioned, your aftermarket AC should have any needed relays supplied with it. So if all your other items were in working order such as heater blower running, etc., you should be good to go. Be sure to clean all ground areas up real good and make sure all grounds are in place. And I am taking it for granted that your car is not a Rally Sport, because there are relays there too. Good luck. J.R.

Make sure you get the conversion "engine" harness for the 12SI or CS130 alternator (whatever your preference) if you plan to switch from the original remote voltage regulator design.

You can also stipulate between driver's (SWP) and passenger's side (LWP) alternator mounting too.

I'm a big fan of VR elimination and the 12SI for it's durability.

My kit came with a wiring harness for the internal ALT. The note in the package said if I was using an external to order part number ########

Re: 67 total re-wiring info needed

yea, that part is a ballist resistor that you would use for an externally regulated alt. AAW recommends using 10SI, 12SI or a CS130 with their harness. I switched to a 12SI and am very pleased and glad that I did. And also something else to think about: I dont know if your car has factory gauges or not, but if not, and you intend to add aftermarket gauges; you could and in my opinion should keep your early warning (idiot lights) wired up and operable, just for the added protection. They should actually light up before your gauges give warning. Sort of a backup that works first, if you catch my meaning. The AAW info tells you how to do it. J.R.
