1967 Camaro Big Block with gear reduction starter

1967 Camaro Big Block with gear reduction starter. Just the way i purchased it, with no wiring. I purchased a factory correct wiring harness that is for a rally sport, because i'm installing the rally head light set up as well. I placed the purple wire on the solenoid post and the positive battery termial on the larger post. But there is a yellow and resister wire that are factory tied together. i placed the yellow and resistor wire on a ballast resistor end, and from the other end to the negative side of the coil.
I found an old forum that stated might get back feed that way and won't start. Need help? It won't start and the ignition switch is hot.
Do i cut the yellow wire? and just and remove the ballast, and use the restor wire dirrect to neg side of coil ?
