New front engine wiring harness but engine wont turn

If you installed a new front engine wiring harness on a 1967 Camaro and now the engine won't turn where would you look first to resolve this? When I turn the ignition key the lights come on, radio works but absolutely no response from the engine. Acts as if no electric to it. To the best of my knowledge the new harness is properly installed and all ends are attached to the apPropriate part.

This harness attaches to the master cylinder, temp sensor, oil sensor, blower motor and starter. I'm totally lost.

What about the wires to the starter itself? That has nothing to do with the coil.

Hey Alan,
I did have the wires connected to the solenoid but no fire at all. As best as I could...I also checked to make sure the harness was fastened to the fuse box. Im guessing if it was not propperly connected I would not have gotten the lights or radio to operate.

This particular harness has a yellow and purple wire going to the solenoid. The solenoid has a post with an (R) and the other post has an (s). I'm not really sure what post the yellow wire connects to.

Look at the starter. There should be a purple wire that attaches to the small terminal on the solenoid that is closest to the engine block. The terminal should be labeled "S". Regardless, if the purple wire isnt attached to that inside terminal the engine wont crank. The yellow wire should be connected to the outside terminal on the solenoid, labeled "R". Even if the yellow isnt hooked up, and the purple is - it should crank, assuming your battery is charged up. The purple to the inside small terminal (S) is what makes it happen.

Do you have a meter that you can test for power to those leads?
If the ignition switch is a stock 67 switch both the yellow and the purple leads should have power when the switch is in the "start" position.

I think I had the purple wire on the outside & yellow inside. I'ts 6:15am right now and I'm fighting some kind of cold/flu/allergy sickness so I'll hook that back up later this afternoon.

I do have a meter and I'll check for power before I hook the leads back up.

Thanks for the tips.

Re: New front engine wiring harness but engine wont turn

I do want to say how impressed I am with the harness from American Autowire. You can certainly tell that I'm not an expert in this area but the harness was a perfect fit and everything plugged in perfectly. Welll done AAW!
