Help: where does the negative terminal battery wire ground to ?

I'm putting my 68 camaro back together after a restoration and I'd like to know where the factory location would be to ground the battery to the chassis.

Thanks

There is a special bolt on the water pump. You really should get an Assembly Manual, available from any vender. I rely heavily on mine.

This is a 67 but I believe the 68s are the same. The smaller wire grounds to the right fender and the engine ground to the top water pump bolt on the rights side.

According to the 67 and 68 AIM section UPC 12 page A5 - Roger is correct. Upper water pump bolt on the passenger side.

Roger is also correct that the smaller ground wire from the terminal bolts to the right fender...

Re: Help: where does the negative terminal battery wire ground to ?

Thread resurrection, since I have the exact same question but the factory answer doesn't work for me. My 67 327 doesn't have an exposed stud on the water pump to use for the ground. Am I better off attaching it to the water pump, in between the pump and the AC compressor bracket, or to the thermostat housing?

If you are not looking for originality, maybe use the bolt blocking off the hole in the front of the block that intersects with the fuel pump push rod hole. Just make sure the bolt is not too long but long enough to keep from pulling the threads when tightening it.

I would clean the surface that the terminal end will be in contact with and then use either an internal or external toothed lock washer also.

Also make sure you attach the small ground wire from the battery post terminal to the fender or radiator support again onto a cleaned spot with a toothed lockwasher.

Here's a picture of the hole I was talking about but looking at it, maybe use the one below it instead.

'67 with AC connects to a lower bolt on the AC compressor. That's where mine is and is shown in the AIM C60 E2.

The best location is directly to the block.

If not concerned with judges, use the thermostat housing bolt stud
