Passenger side alternator mount

Does anyone know if you have to use the short or long water pump to re-locate the alternator to the passenger side on a 67 ? Or does it matter at all ?

Re: passenger side alternator mount

Why would you move it to the passenger side? 67 and 68 are on the driver side.

Re: passenger side alternator mount

You would have to use a long water pump AND pulleys, both W/P and crank, going along with the LWP.
Don't forget the pass side brackets also.

And the bolt hole in the passenger side head that anchors the bottom alternator mount.

Re: passenger side alternator mount

The short pump can be either and so can the long if using aftermarket brackets.

This has been a pia for me lately since I need to go with a LWP on my new mill, and you have less options with a long pump. Almost any mfg makes a mount for both sides and a short pump, you are pretty limited with a long version.
I wish I could use a short pump but it won't work in my case, it's been a pain finding performance oriented long pump accessory drive stuff, unless you are into billet and shiny bling, which I am not.

Why are you going to go pass mount? In my case I need to for the blower, otherwise I would leave it DR side and get performance brackets and pulleys.

Re: Passenger side alternator mount

Sure it's worth it if that's what you want to do. Pulleys are a dime a dozen.

I wish I could remember who I got it from, but I bought a special bracket to mount the Alt. because I don't have accessory holes in the heads. It was already on the passenger side to begin with though, so I already have the long water pump and correct pulley.
Someone makes the bottom rear bracket to mount the alternator off of the water pump. I just don't remember who it is.

Re: Passenger side alternator mount

If you don't want chrome brackets just get some and sandblast/paint satin black works well.
