Help

I have installed a new zz4 turn key in my 1968 camaro. I'm just finishing the wiring. I have a question re: alternator wiring from the harness. Although I have the wiring diagram manuals and the assembly manual, I can't find the answer.

I need to connect the dark blue and white wire from the harness to the alternator, but it's not clear what the white wire is vs the dark blue, if I knew that I can determine how to connect to the alternator SFLP pigtail.

Appreciate your help guys.

Re: Help

Blue wire goes to the "F" terminal, and the White wire goes to the "R" terminal on the Alternator rear.

Re: Help

69-Pace, I don't have an R terminal. The alternator that came with my ZZ4 turn-key has 4 wires (apart from the battery connection), they are labeled:

(S) is the sense wire. This is connected directly to the battery

(F) is connected internally to field positive and can be used as a fault indicator.

(L) is connected to a charge indicator light, or to a resistor, or to both.

(P) is connected to the stator and can be connected externally to a tachometer or other device.

So if I connect the blue wire to the F terminal, where should the white wire go?

What would help me a lot is info regarding what each of the wires in the harness is - I can't find this info anywhere. some kind of chart that matches the wiring diagrams to indicate what each wire is. Does this exist somewhere?

Re: Help

On orginal external voltage regulators:

F: Blue = Field
2: White = Neutral
3: Red (or Orange) = Bat./Alt.
4: Brown = Ign. Power/GEN light

So, I would guess the White goes to P in your case????????

Re: Help

I think, Tom, you have a CS 130 alt because of SFLP connection, all four male terminals straight in a row in an oval connector.
This is an internally reg'd alternator and you would bring over from the ext reg connector, the brown wire as it goes to the GEN light.
The rest of the terminals have no connections, I believe.
Once alt is running, the brown wire supplies voltage to the GEN light turning out the GEN light.

Re: Help

Search for your alt hook-up to be sure. The CS130 on my '88 Dually has only the brown wire connected..
You might even search the number you have for more info.
