windshield wiper problem

Replaced switch and it is still doing the same thing. When I turn off the windshield wipers, it take 6-12 more sweeps before it shuts down and returns to base. Any ideas? I replaced the switch thinking that was the problem. The wiper switch is on a 71 RS Camaro. any ideas much apprecaited.

Re: windshield wiper problem

sounds like maybe the wiper transmission is off from the auto park position.

Re: windshield wiper problem

What does that mean? Does it mean it is not in the switch and in the body of the windshield mechanism under the hood? Any idea how to go about fixing something like this or do you need to replace the unit?
Any detail is greatly appreciated. Truly apprecaite it.

Re: windshield wiper problem

When the switch is cut off the wipers are designed to continue on to the "auto park" position, otherwise the wipers would stop in the middle of the windshield if that is where the switch was shut off.

Re: windshield wiper problem

sorry hit post too fast...yes you can search and find a few decent posts on resetting the wiper motor into the right auto park position. Was the motor ever removed from the firewall? What year are we speaking of Neil, you said the switch was from a 71.

Re: windshield wiper problem

Thank you for taking the time. Much appreciated.
This if off of my 1971 RS. I never removed the windshield wiper motor, but it has had just about everything else removed; lol. I will look for that post you mentioned. Wow that would be great if it is that simple; Take care.

Re: windshield wiper problem

FIXED. I pulled the plastic over off of it and noticed it was really dirty. took a tooth brush and took all of the dust out of it. Heard a click ? Anyway, just tried it and works great. Again, thanks for the prompt response. Now... for that (*#)_# temp gauge. I have worked on that problem for some time. That is for another time; LOL.
