Volt. reg

Last night after going to a cruise night, I parked my car in the driveway, and when I went to start it up to put it in the garage, the voltage regulator made a short vibration noise, right after the engine turned over.
Is this a sign that it is on its way out???
Thanks
Barry

You sure it just wasn't your key buzzer? Do 67 Camaro's have that feature?

Re: Volt. reg

Yeah..no....I put my head down next to the voltage regulator as my wife started the car, it was definitely coming from the regulator.

Re: Volt. reg

Old style VR?? They can make noise at times. Replace it with a solid state unit. They are much more reliable and/or trouble free. VR 715 is a common part#.

Re: Volt. reg

Yes the Solid State units are available at Autozone. They are inexpensive. 30.00 is probably high. Shop around. Ebay link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/WELLS-VR715-...sories&vxp=mtr

D12F683DD096 in the “How Did You Hear About Us?” line of your shopping cart. Then you should get private sales emails after that.

Re: Volt. reg

If the code has expired, it was working long after the date it was to expire, you can always call and see if they will honor the Team Camaro discount over the phone with your user name here. As I mentioned, once your email is on the system you will get regular notices of discounts and special sales.

But I often find their day to day prices are far below the big box places, and I got an NOS part in original GM AC Delco box circa 1972 off the shelf as the regular replacement part price last fall.

Re: Volt. reg

Barry, if you have never replaced it yet... go to most parts stores and get a Wells VR 715 and just replaced it. The new one is electronic, not points, and works much better anyway. Just around $12 too.

Re: Volt. reg

If it is bad your alternator will not be charging your battery. Check with a volt meter.

I agree about the electronic vreg. Put one one two months ago, looks like the original only slimmer. mounts exactly as the old style and just works. Just follow the directions and make sure it is grounded BEFORE you connect it up to anything. I also disconnected my battery until I had it all hooked up.

Re: Volt. reg

If you want the Wells/Airtex Solid State unit to look just like the OEM unit, just remove your original full height cover, pop off the slim plastic cover of the Wells unit and mount your old cover. The Wells used to have the holes already drilled, but the last one I bought they were only punched to mark them I had to drill them out.
