69 Camaro idiot light

I have a 1969 rs that has been converted to a z28 very poorly. The charging system will only turn on manually. I noticed that the idiot light bulb and socket are missing. Wondering if that could cause the alt. to not turn on. thank you for any help.

Re: 69 camaro idiot light

Yeah I think it has to see the resistance of the bulb to "excite" the Alternator but Everett is the electrical expert.

Re: 69 camaro idiot light

It depends on how it was converted to internal if it has been. I prefer a light to tell me the alternator is charging. I don't know how the "one" wire alternators work, nor so I care to find out. The wiring changes to set up an internal regulator alternator with a working light are fiarly simple IMHO.
