Interior Lights

I have a 67 Convertible, and as I was driving home from a show on Sunday, I noticed that at every minor bump I went over, the interior lights would come on. They would stay lit for about 20 sec. and then go off. This happened about 6 times in 45 min. It was driving me nuts. Has anyone ever had this happen? If so, what was the remedy.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Interior Lights

If the bulb and socket comes unseated from the bracket that it mounts in, it can ground out and cause this. That's often the cause.

PS, Welcome aboard! We would like to see pics of your car.

Re: Interior Lights

Do you mean the "dome" light? If so check your headlight switch and make sure it is not half clicked over to manual operation of the dome light. Also check your door jam switches for loose connections as the doors may be flexing over bumps enough to activate the jam switch.

Re: Interior Lights

I'm with Brian. Probably body flex and the door jam switches adjusted too far in so they don't make good contact with the door. Fix is adjusting the switches further out....and subframe connectors.

Just a note on how they operate....
Your courtesy lights always have 12V on one side. The other side gets ground provided by either the headlight switch or your door switches. The door switches have the wire connected to the back side. When the door is open and the switch pops out, the back side with the wire is pulled so it grounds against the switch body and gives the light its ground, turning it on. When you push the door switch in, it pushes the wire/connector back so it no longer grounds.

Re: Interior Lights

Gentlemen,
As crazy as it sounds, Melrose hit it on the head! I started with the sockets and one of the bulbs was unseated from the bracket that it was mounted in. It caused the ground out and caused this. At any rate, I'm driving stress free and am very thankful for all of you help.
You guys are the best!
Kind regards,
Norm
