Passenger side under dash - drill?

Under the passenger side dash theres the heater box and right above it a sheet of metal blocking of direct access to the actual firewall, sounds hollow, whats behind that? I want to run some wires that direction to pop out the passenger side firewall but wasnt sure whats behind that plate and why its there. I assume its the blower motor area to pull in air or fresh air tunnel of somekind? Theres already a screw hole in the firewall so i can expand it to run some wires in and its hollow behind it because i pushed a few feet of wire into it, just need to have a hole under the dash to pull it through and all i can think of is drill a hole in that plate.

Re: Passenger side under dash - drill?

I think the area you're talking about is the bottom of the inner cowl. If there are no holes in it, don't put any new one's in. Water will drain through into the passenger cabin and ruin your carpet, floor, heater box, wiring, etc.

Re: Passenger side under dash - drill?

well its not in the wiper area, looking under the dash the fresh air vent is screwed into it, so i think we might have two different areas? i might just ren them to the drivers side instead theres already enough holes over there from previous stuff anyway whats one more. lol

The fresh air vents on my '68s screw to the inner cowl. There's an inverted U to keep water from coming in the vents. If it's the same area, there are safer places for running wires.
BTW, you're next door. I'm in Lunenburg
