Points to HEI

Helping a friend put an HEI in place of his original points type dist. Could use some help knowing what wires go where. I know the ignition wire goes to the bat and the tach wire goes to the tach but what about the other wires that go to the old coil? Thanks, Wayne

Re: Points to HEI

One goes to the starter, yellow on my 67, you don't have to use it. taped it back on the starter side and the coil side. unhooked it I mean !!!

Re: Points to HEI

That's pretty much it, only two wires to hook up.
If the car it's going on had a ballast resistor you need to get rid of that so it gets a full 12V.
If it's like a Camaro with a resistor wire you need to safety the end of that, then run a new 12 AWG fused wire from the IGN spade on the fuse block inside the car to the BATT terminal.
If there is a wire going from the positive side of the old coil down to the starter you do not need that anymore. Best to just remove it although you could disconnect both ends and safety them so it would be there should he ever decide to go back.

The only wires on the old coil should've been
+ side from ignition (need full 12V to new HEI)
+ side from starter (no longer needed)
- side to distributor (no longer needed, comes out with old dizzy)
- side to tach (connects to TACH on HEI)
