Need a Battery

I am interested in recommendations for a battery for my 69. The Optima red top that was in it just gave up the ghost after 6 years, and I need to replace it. I know that the current Optima batteries are being produced in good old China and from what I am told aren't very good. The old one has "Made in the USA" cast right into the top.I don't want to dump $200 on a piece of junk.I have heard that Interstate and AC Delco make pretty good batteries.I welcome any opinions from the crew.

Everything I have has Interstate, except the Sears garden tractor, Die Hard.

Re: Need a Battery

I have an AC Delco with both side terminals and top posts. I use the side terminals for the electrical system and if I need to add something, or plug in a timing light, I use the top posts.

I put Interstates in my other vehicles and the last one lasted 7 years.

Re: Need a Battery

Matt,
The extended heat seasons we have here is not nice to batteries.
3-4 years tops is all you can expect from a battery regardless of brand.
I use Diehards, get them on sale in the ~ $80 ish range.
I use a trickle charger also to keep them topped off in between usage.
