Mallory unilite Distributor

I recently came in to a new in the box Mallory Unilite distributor. My only concern is that it has no vaccum advance and my ride is a performance street car. I am not to concerned about mileage, just around town driveability. I have an HEI now so I know I need a coil & ballast resitor. Anyone with experience with these on a weekend car please chime in with suggestions, experiences etc.
Thanks Don

Re: Mallory unilite Distributor

Don
The distributor you have should have a advance key in the box. The key is black , about three to four inches long and has steps to set it to diff advances. It does have an advance just not vacuume. It is an OK dist , but if you dont use a good ballist resister it will fry the module. The module is around $80.00 bucks, but still an OK dist. HEI is a good dist if the engine is not too rad. I ran a Unilite and a comp 5000 quite a few years ago, but have changed to MSD. Hope this helps.

Re: Mallory unilite Distributor

Thanks, my engine is a 350 .040 over with Performer Rpm everything. I'm guessing at about 400 HP and she has a 200R4 with a mild stall. I know it's a good dizzy, just wondering if around town driveability is going to be a drag? Is this a strip only piece?
