Question Candidates for running thru relays?

Prepping for this LS swap and designing my auxiliary fuse\relay box for the car.

What circuits SHOULD be on relays? My fan is already on a fused relay circuit, and I know the fuel pump needs to be. Are there engine controls that should be relayed like the factory designed it (before it was plucked from the donor)?
How about the electronic dash?
Headlights\taillights circuits?
Put the power source from the trunk mounted battery solenoid on a relay? Not sure how that would work since it's the 12V source to begin with.

If not relays in different circuits, what circuits to and from the engine should be fused? I need to protect the ECM and TCM.
I want to design it to have the proper quantity and rating of fuses and\or relays before putting the engine in so the wiring will be easy to get to, and I can better decide where to mount the box.

Thanks

Re: Candidates for running thru relays?

Are you using the OEM harness.

ECM and TCM 10 amp fused/switched circuit.

Anything that has a high load should be thru relays. Cooling fans, high out put headlights (those that draw more amp then OEM) power windows and seats etc.

If aftermarket harness such *** AAW Classic Update you can run ECM and TCM circuits off the extra circuits provided.

If OEM a clean way to go is to add another fuse box with 6 or 8 circuits.

Pull power from the bat connection on the rear mount solenoid. For switched power add a relay that is activated with 12v switched to turn the fuse box on when the key is turned on.

Like this it has it all

Re: Candidates for running thru relays?

Yep... I've been looking at the Painless setups like the 70107. That's one reason I'm asking is to make sure I get something that's the correct size\rating to get me started.
The harnesses are OEM, but I didn't get any of the underhood harness that included the fuse\relay\CB panel... just the eng\trans harnesses.

You will always have to run either a power wire to the ign sw for powering the power relay, or switch the relay ground. No way around it.

Heater blower motor on a relay.
Wipers/washers,
Power windows, rear window defroster,
Good suggestions given on accessories.

Re: Candidates for running thru relays?

I was asking if you Cars harness was OEM

You can use the painless 70107 and add a relay for the fuel pump.

Re: Candidates for running thru relays?

Jeeez.... maybe the relay panel will have to sit in the passenger seat!

Didn't think about the blower motor... haven't hooked it up in 3 years. Guess it's time.

You do not need relays for the OEM stuff like the heater blower. Stock headlights do not need relays.

You will need an ignition relay.

Where are you mounting the ECM and TCM?

Re: Candidates for running thru relays?

I've been all over that site. I've got a couple posts there too.
He's updated all of those diagrams\schematics a couple weeks ago... I have them all.

Haven't decided where to mount the computers till I get the engine in place first. There ain't much room in the passenger compartment really. That parts up in the air right now.

Thanks

Re: Candidates for running thru relays?

For the ignition relay, I'll have to look at the GTO schematics again and figure out the best place\method for adding one.
