69 AM Radio Power Feed

Does the 1969 factory under-dash wiring harness include the power supply connector for the radio (the AIM suggests this may be the case, in UPC U63), or was that a separate harness? If separate, whereabouts does it connect into the under-dash wiring harness, as I will have to splice into it and use spade terminals to the radio (the original connector doesn't seem to be reproduced on its own).

Re: 69 AM Radio Power Feed

Mine's taped up somewhere under the dash but do any of these look like the right layout?

Seems like I remember it only being two wires. My chassis wiring diagram shows a 20AWG yellow coming from the fuse block and a 20AWG black going to the main dash ground.

Thanks Steiner; Yes the connector has the yellow and black wire, and it looks like it should be part of the main instrument cluster harness, based on the AIM and the factory wiring diagrams........

Re: 69 AM Radio Power Feed

I'm pretty sure it is. If they came out easier and you weren't on another planet I'd yank one and give it to you. If you can't find a little lonely yellow wire in the harness you can just plug onto the ACC spade connector at the fuse block.

Re: 69 AM Radio Power Feed

Thanks again Steiner, I may end up going AAW factory fit repro harness if I come up with too many other missing or modified areas, being an ex-race car, the radio pigtail is probably the least of my worries!

Re: 69 AM Radio Power Feed

You bet. I checked out the AAW harness earlier to verify it against what I remember and my schematics. It's unclear if it comes with the plug as the dash harness just shows four wires (to cover all radio setups) but doesn't show a plug or if one needs to be assembled. You're right though if you start finding stuff has been "slimmed down" enough over the years. Might be easier to start over. I've been lucky. Got some issues but haven't managed to burn one down yet...

That is my biggest concern with the original wiring......
Although the AAW repro harness is north of $400, I guess that's cheap insurance against an under-dash fire

Re: 69 AM Radio Power Feed

The power connector, as you read in U63, plugs into the speaker connector and spkr plugs into the radio. You are right, it is part of the harness.
Yellow wire from the fuse panel, RADIO, and black wire to dash ground point.

Re: 69 AM Radio Power Feed

How else are you going to get a 'heavy' SBC Camaro with no torque to run E class in Modified Production?
Lose weight, less mass to 'start' moving, free horsepower.
