Questions about this 67 console gauge wire?

What is this ground wire for and where does it attach? I looked at the AIM and found a diagram that shows a ground on the drivers side tunnel. If this is that ground, how would it reach? It barely extends out an inch or two beyond the console and wont make it to the left side of the tunnel. If this is that ground, can I extend it to ground it elsewhere on the car? There is also a longer black ground wire that would seem to reach the left tunnel (going by my old harness, this one was connected to the radio support bracket).

I hesitate to answer as I'm far from an expert, but having just wired/installed console gauges (non-stock) in my '67 maybe my experience can help. If you're looking to keep everything original then just ignore.

There should be no problem extending that ground wire by splicing in a longer piece and running up under the dash. I consolodated 3 grounds from the gauges into one, ran through a quick disconnect then up under the dash. Everything works great.
