Column Shifter to Floor Shifter

I am hoping that someone can help me on this one, the car I have originally had a column shifter and the guy I bought it from converted it to a Floor Shifter. As shown in the pictures there are two wires that go to the shifter located on the floor that when I asked him about them he said that they are there because the car originally had a column shifter. Now shame on me for not asking more questions but I guess I didn't want the guy to know I was completely ignorant when it came to cars. Can someone possibly explain to me what was done? If i got a new wiring harness can I somehow correct this so I don't have wires going to the shifter?

Thank you in advance!

Re: Column Shifter to Floor Shifter

See the light green, pink, and two purple wires together in the second pic? Those go to the Neutral Safety switch.
Pink is backup lights, the purples are power... can't remember the green. Looks like they tied the power wires together, and ran the pink and green wires to the shifter for the lights to work.

What year?
There's a console harness for floor shifters. But you can wire it yourself... he already started it for you.

Green wire is back-up bulbs, pink is power for them.

Re: Column Shifter to Floor Shifter

The year of the Car is '68. I was seriously thinking about getting a brand new complete kit harness, would that also take care of this?

It is quick responses like this that make me happy that I became a member of this Site!
