Good place to tap for switched 12V?

I want to run a switched 12V and unswitched 12V into the dash area for accessories. (low power consumption stuff like radar detector). Obviously I can get the unswitched 12V from the battery directly, which Ill likely do.

I can get the switched 12v from the starter solenoid but thats less than ideal for a bunch of reasons. Any other easy places that might already be under the dash?

There are three male spades on your fuse block for accessories:
BATT = hot all the time
IGN = hot with key in start and run
ACC = hot with key in ACC or run

You can also tap the cigar / cigarette lighter for unswitched 12v

Re: Good place to tap for switched 12V?

I thought it would be that simple.. it isnt. My switched 12v lug on my fuse box isnt supplying switched 12v. The constant 12v works great as does the accessory, but I need the ignition 12v. Grrr. what feeds it?

You could maybe tap into the radio fuse (or others in the panel)
Using your multimeter, place the black lead on the sill plate (ground). Use the red lead on different circuits on the fuse panel to find ones that are "dead". Now turn the key to the run position and re-check those the were "dead" to see if they're now "hot".

Lots to choose from

Thanks Doug. Thats pretty high on my list right now. My first choice is to find out why the IGN lug isnt working though.
