Re: ignition switch keeps going out

Have they all been from the same company ?. I had a person I helped out years ago and he had two switches back to back from the same parts house that were the same part number and both quit working. I told him to try another brand and it was fine after that.

Is there more of a load on the switch than what it was designed for it from the factory ?. In other words has something been added to where now instead of the switch being able to handle let's say 30A on a terminal, it's being asked to pass 50A or current ?.

Re: ignition switch keeps going out

Agree with Jim, its all in the brand name.
Also, by OE design, the ign switch was designed to handle X amount of current.
If more electrical items were added and they are either ACC or IGN controlled, now added current goes through the switch contacts and switch gets overloaded.
Add-on electronics should be relay controlled for the extra current and ign switch should control the relay.
