Hot Tach Wire

While tuning my carb, I noticed a spark from the dangling tach wire on the throttle rod, so when I moved it away it was hot as ****. I taped it up out of the way for now. The car has an HEI. What is going on and should that wire be so hot?

Re: Hot Tach Wire

Is the insulation on the wire stripped from rubbing against something? Could be the wire itself is chaffed and it's causing extra resistance and therefore heat

Re: Hot Tach Wire

If this is the signal feed wire it should be null unless one end is on the coil on a standard ignition. Since you are HEI and it is not connected I assume you Tachometer is being fed some other way?
