1968 Ignition Switch Pigtail Connector?

Seems my ignition switch connector was hacked apart by the PO. It also appears there are none available for 68 7-pin wire setup but they do sell the 5-pin 67 connector in a few places. I tried all the automotive wiring companies like AAW but they won't budge on a selling just the '68 connector even if I throw $$ at them. I know I don't NEED one and can probably rig something easily enough - but it would be great if I could just solder in a new connector and feel good about it. Anyone have a source or one from a kit they don't need? Why don't the repro folks make one... it's like a missed opportunity. Not everyone wants to throw down for a whole under dash kit for just one connector. PM me if you have any info.

Re: 1968 Ignition Switch Pigtail Connector?

Thanks Brian for the info.
I wish it was that easy but unfortunately for me that's not the 68 (Camaro, at least) 7-pin connector pictured. I do appreciate your time and efforts though.
Best,
Dave

Hum I have no experience with dash mounted ignition switches. This is listed for all seven lug GM ignitions. What do you have for a connector now?

Re: 1968 Ignition Switch Pigtail Connector?

Ill be digging into the dash soon and will post a picture. The plug I currently have is for the standard 1968 Switch (it is different from 67-69 switches) but is broken apart, chewed up, and missing all 3 securing clips too. Until I post a photo... a good reference is a 68 switch like this...

You can see it has a center pin for the key warning (horn relay) buzzer and does not match the 67 layout at all even if you omitted the 2 extra pins. The 69 was a column mount and completely different - wish we had those in '68

Dave

Thumbs up Re: 1968 Ignition Switch Pigtail Connector?

Here are some photos of the 1968 (and 67) GM Ignition Connectors. 1968 connector appears to fit several 1968 GM models including Camaro but is not reproduced. The 1967 connector is new and available for about $25. Not sure about 67, but the 1968 GM Connector was only used for the 68 model year on specific vehicles. The next year, 69 Camaros were provisioned a new and entirely different steering column (vs. dash) ignition switch.

The additional 1968 center wire was intended for the horn relay key warning buzzer.

Re: 1968 Ignition Switch Pigtail Connector?

Id be almost tempted to use a 67 switch and pigtail and just tie off the key buzzer wires.
