Question Help: 2 issues; Electrical & Ignition Key Stuck

Hey guys, back at it some more with the 69 Maro in the evenings after work. I'm having a couple of problems. My car has a new ignition lock cylinder installed but I think the previous owner installed wrong. The key does not go back into the "lock" position thus cannot be removed. I've tried turning the column sleeve to the left and also messing with the rod under the hood that goes to the trans to release the key but nothing will get this key out. Idk what the hell is wrong or how to go about this?!?

Also, I am barely starting to dive into the wiring of the car. The original harness is somewhat in tach and I'd like to salvage as much as possible. Between my old man and his old man (3 Generations) lol I'm hoping we can figure out some or most of the stuff out. The only problem is I googled the typical 1969 Camaro wiring diagram photo with color coded lines and don't understand how to decipher or read the damn thing? I get confused because the diagram looks NOTHING like under the hood of the car whatsoever. Is there any diagrams out there besides the one with everything on one page or the typical AIM photos? I wish there was broken down diagrams from each cluster of wire harnesses bunch that come out from the firewall explaining each wire color and where it goes. or some kind of extra info explaining the diagrams!? I have 0% knowledge of electrical. Just trying to get as much info as possible. Sorry for sounding like a dumb***. Just trying to make a dream come true! Thanks to any and all that have helped or will help!

Can you turn the key to the lock position and it still won't come out or you can't turn it to lock? The first step is getting to turn to the lock position. As for the diagrams I've always thought they were fairly straight forward. The color codes are there and the components are illustrated and some of them are grouped together. I'm not really sure what you are finding difficult about reading the diagram.

James - Well here's what I think your key issue is...Turn the lock-out column on the steering wheel to the locked position to remove the key by hand.

The member downloads over at Jim's First Gens include the full set of these diagrams.

Better?

My Key & Cylinder both do not turn back far enough to line up to the lock position at all, resulting in not being able to remove the key or have functionability. I have tried the trick of sliding the column counterclockwise and also my "lower lockout rod" or whatever its called under the hood that goes to the transmission isn't even connected because the previous owner cut the damn thing. I tried everything I can think of so far? I might have to break the cylinder out like the previous owner did. This will be two switches already that are installed wrong or something is wrong internally that doesn't allow for a functioning key switch?!?

Take the screws out of the electrical switch at the bottom of the column and see if the lock cylinder will then move far enough to remove the key. I think it possible to get the switch far enough out of adjustment to prevent key removal.

Cool Re: Help: 2 issues; Electrical & Ignition Key Stuck

Hey guys, thanks for the help. I was able to get the key switch working properly. I disassembled the entire top tier of the column and removed the lock cylinder. I was then able to notice that he had the little plastic gear that turns the rod up & down backwards, therefore resulting in the switch not rotating all the way back and forward as it should. I reassembled everything and now its working perfect now!!! Also got all my wiring figured out! I got off work Friday and went over to my grandfathers where the car is @ and he already had it all figured out! Leave it to the oldschool backyard professional mechanic to figure it out!! He rocks. Thanks Guys
