67 RS/SS Hide a way ?

My 67 RS/SS Camaro Headlight doors open when you turn lights on ....But no longer close when you turn the lights off.
They use to work fine......They will close if you open the hood with the key on lights off and manually push the limit switch.
What should I check.

Its possible that you have some bad limit switches. More than likely you have a bad connection on the relay board that is located under the drivers fender by the washer bottle. I just replaced all my relays and tightened up the connectors because I was having the same type of issue. Try messing with the plugs with the key in and see if that makes them close. If so, then you know its the problem.

More than likely you have corrosion on one or more of the wire contacts or ground wires. Check the limit switch ground points on the radiator support for either corrosion or possible paint over spray if any painting was done recently. Clean the limit switch ground wire eyelet add dab of electrical grease to protect metal from elements after cleaning.(clean to bare metal using sand paper and reassemble using "star" washers)

Clean the electrical connectors of the limit switches and use electrical grease on them aswell.

Look for any cuts in the wires from the limit switches to the relays under the drivers fender.

remove the relay circuit board carefully from under the drivers fender so as not to pull/yank wires off any of the terminals. Look and see if all wires are attached or if any have come lose? if all looks good than inspect wires and electrical contacts for possible corrosion or signs of electrical damage. Great time to clean up contacts and add electrical grease in any case as a preventative measure.

Lastly it may be the light switch itself. The originals are prone to failure pull and see if burnt or if any wire has detached or has corrosion.

Re: 67 RS/SS Hide a way ?

I reset the 3 relays under the driver fender and it worked for me. So remove the wiring and re-attach..

Good to hear. My relays were still good but the contacts were rusted so I just bought 3 new ones. They were cheap and my lights work great now.
