lighter

I have a 69 camaro I purchased a lighter What was in the car was not connected or working The connection on the lighter starts small and gets slightly larger in one step half way up the connector The plug on the wiring harness looks like it should slide on a straight one size connector Can anyone tell me which was one is incorrect I have looked at the lighters being sold and most seem to have the 2 level connector thanks

Re: lighter

There were two styles of lighters used - Casio and Rochester if i remember right. Most common is the Rochester. As long as the sleeve, retainer and the pop-up element match you will have a working system. Both systems have the same design, the center takes the power lead and when the lighter pop-up is engaged it grounds and heats the coil, when it reaches temp it pops up to disconnect and breaks the circuit. Over the years the and pugs or the lighter won't slide in or make good connections so you just replace the sleeve and good to go. Generally it is likely you have to replace all three to get a working unit, or just the sleeve if you are just looking for power.
