69 AM radio problem

I took my radio out of the car and had it looked at. The guy cleaned it and it bench test fine while I was there. I put the radio in the car it lights up but no sound. I have power to the yellow wire to the radio.
How can I check to see if the speaker good?

Thanks TC

You can use a 9v battery with wire leads off the the positive and negative post. Touch the leads to the speaker wires or the speaker contacts. If the speaker are good you will hear a crackling noise.

Re: 69 AM radio problem

The speaker is bad. Has anyone used the custom auto sound in dash replacement? I so can you use the factory harness?

Re: 69 AM radio problem

I installed a true stereo mounted in the dash location. It is made by Kenwood. Ricks and Classic both carry it plus a range of center dash replacements. Mine is for non-a/c but they also make high end speakers for a/c vehicles.

I went with stereo at the time thinking in a vert I would be set. It's good when the car is off. Lol.

You can also have your original mono speaker rebuilt so it's like new.

Re: 69 AM radio problem

I had mine done by a local speaker shop. About $40. You should be able to find a shop near you. Here's a link to where I had mine done. http://jamacspeakers.com/

Re: 69 AM radio problem

A buddy of mine used http://speakersaver.com/ on his pace car restoration last year. Before and after pics attached. I was amazed and it was cheap too.

Here are a few more places but I'm sure there will be one near you. Look for speaker reconing services in your area or Google.
