Tach wiring

I bought a '69 SS Camaro and it has a pro-comp tach with MSD 6AL ignition. I want to put a stock dash tach in place of the fuel gauge and would like to know how to marry the wires from the current tach to the stock wiring harness from the new stock tach.

There are (2) versions of the stock style 69 tach available. One is directly compatible with the stock dizzy and ignition wiring setup. The other is compatible with the newer HEI style dizzy and ignition setup. With the MSD, the best bet is to go with the upgraded electronics version; otherwise the standard ignition version will require a tach filter to function properly with your MSD ignition setup. Normally, there is the "pink" wire for 12V power, "black" wire for ground, and the "brown" wire for the negative ignition coil connection. I made the same conversion from fuel gauge to tach and purchased the upgraded version from Tamraz (best price) for my HEI style dizzy and it works perfectly without any external modifications (no filter needed).

Re: Tach wiring

I guess i'll have to go with the tach filter since I've already purchased the tach.
thanks for the info..
On another note, does anybody know why I have a togo switch attached left of my steering column and the wire runs from my MSD 6al ignition box . I'm not familiar with any of this since I haven't had a muscle car since the 60's and early 70's..

The extra toggle switch is most likely used as a "theft deterrent kill" switch. Some of the MSD units provide connections to disable the magnetic pickup using an independent switch.
