New ignition switch not engaging.

Ok so I lost my keys and went to napa and bought the cheaper of the two ignition switches.i installed it and it doesn't turn far enough the to start the car.i can take a small screwdriver and push rod in the center of the column while turning key and fires right up.i feel like I can't turn it as much as old one.side by side they are not identical either.do I have the wrong one or is the an adjustment somewhere I can make?car is 69 camaro non tilt floor shift column.thanks

Re: New ignition switch not engaging.

The holes where it mounts on top of the column are slotted to allow some adjustment.

Tilt column use a different switch than standard - maybe you got the wrong one

I think he just replaced the key cylinder not the switch. I believe the key cylinders are the same. I'm not sure why the switch would require an adjustment after replacing the key cylinder but it the first thing i'd do.

Re: New ignition switch not engaging.

Are you confusing the lock cylinder with the ignition switch? The actual switch - the part with wires - sits on top of the steering column close to the firewall. It is activated by a steel rod that comes from the lock cylinder. You need to lower the steering column for access.
