69 Camaro headlight switch install

Hi All
Just finished installing my Old Headlamp and Wiper Switch in my new Instrument Cluster/ Dash Carrier for my 69 SS/RS.

Went looking for a good Picture on the “Net”, got a Picture last year from another Team Camaro member of his but did not really show what I needed as my Switch was out of the Car in a box of Parts and the AIM is still a Cartoon.

The 3 Tabs for mounting my Wiper Switch were also cut a little short so I added some washers for a spacer.

Re: 69 Camaro headlight switch install

Turned out nice, and the 200kph speedo looks great - I need to get mine over to Instrument Specialties for restoration in the next few months.

Looks great. Strange two extra holes on the face of your wiper switch. I take it its the one your car came with to you originally?

Hi Tim
OK, one more Picture to get you going

I installed my Retrosound 2 Radio for this Pic.

Will have it lying behind the Instrument cluster before Installation and bring it into the Housing after that is installed.

Re: 69 Camaro headlight switch install

Hi Brian
Yes, I did notice the 2 holes and also looked at other pic's of Switches and did not see them there. I guess I'll call it adding "Character" to my car.

when I took it off the Old Instrument Housing, 2 of the 3 tabs were broke and it was Glued in and the Bottom areas were cut out for Switch panels I guess.

Here is before and after Pic's

Yeah battle scars and maybe they were from a previous attempt to attach to the nibbled out dash carrier.

You can easily fill the holes with a plastic epoxy or something and paint the area black again.

Funny how chairs are perfect for staging dash clusters for pictures

Just noticed this forum. I am also installing my headlight switch. My question is, how does the strap fasten to the dash? Is it sandwiched under the dash carrier and lower dash brace with a screw? I have an assembly manual but can't figure that part out.

Thanks in advance.

LOL I have pictures someplace of my new carrier set up in the living room. I even powered up the replacement blue light radio and tested it, Must be a strange Connecticut thing.

Jordan - The strap is held by the headlight switch, the lower wiper switch screw, and the lower carrier mounting bolt. Then the lead is connected to the frame to ground. Take a good look at Tim's photos in his first post in this tread.

Re: 69 Camaro headlight switch install

Everything looks real nice.

What brand dash carrier? I installed an OER a couple months ago - that sucker fought me every step of the way. The finished product looks excellent, though.

Re: 69 Camaro headlight switch install

OER is the only one that i know of currently on the market. HBC qualifies as a Value Added Reseller as they offer the OER carrier modified for all the available gauge options except Power top, or defogger or power top & defogger combo switches. They sell them pre painted to the common interior colors and IMHO an investment well worth the time and hassle.

As to fitment well everybody's vehicle has some history and you might find installing it on a hot day using sunlight to give you a little more bend is a good trick.

Re: 69 Camaro headlight switch install

Al, Jordan and Brian

I guess some Close ups of the Ground Plate Assy between the Headlight Switch and Dash Carrier/ Instrument panel would be Helpful ?

Al, I bought my Dash Carrier/ Instrument Panel from Ground-up, they are like 20 minutes from my home and Super to do Business with, and I want to say it was an OER unit.

I had Mike over at Instrument Specialties in North Kingston, RI do the Swap over, again, Super people giving us what we want, Excellent products and good prices.

Jordan,
The Headlight Switch is held in with an Open Center, Outside Threaded nut that goes thru the Instrument Panel (In my case with the Wood Grain Inserts, it goes thru that First - Then the Instrument Panel) On the back side, there is a Tab from the Ground Plate that picks up the Lower Left Hand Wind Shield Wiper Switch Screw.

The large Round hole with the Slot in the Ground Plate picks up the Tab in the Headlight Switch which orients the Headlight Switch towards the Steering Column and gets "pinched" between the Instrument Panel and Headlight Switch.

The Lower Tab again gets Pinched between the Lower Instrument Panel Mount Flange and the Steel Dash Support assy and like Brian said, the Black Wire Terminal goes to the Lower part of the Steel Dash Support.

Sorry if I'm "killing this" but I like to have Pictures and any info when I'm looking for something - Hope it helps.
