Another HEI/Tach?

I have a new large body HEI plugged into a new OER 67 tach. I've read about the potential problems w/ this set up and plan to make up a filter.

My question; I there danger to the tach if I try to fire the engine w/ out the filter? Can I try it or will it burn up the tack once I hit the key?

Most OER brand tachs are not compatible with HEI systems...check their website for details. I would NOT fire it up without a filter unless you know for certain!

I purchased another factory repo brand for my 69 from the Parts Place on EBAY that is compatible with a factory HEI dizzy. It fits the dash, works perfectly without the filter and calibrates itself from 0 to full scale before taking the reading. This was covered in a previous post a few days ago and by the way, the EBAY Parts Place ad also offers all 67-69 redline options compatible with HEI.

Re: Another HEI/Tach?

Gotcha. I wasn't clear on the failure mode. On the very bright side, I started motor for the first time in 8 years. Felt good.
