Starter motor problem

Fitted a new starter motor to my big block as the older one wouldnt start when hot. New one gives a occasional loud banging noise like its hitting the ring gear or something ? Would the new starter need shimming ?

Re: Starter motor problem

Did you put the starter brace on or is it missing, and were the correct knurled bolts used?

No brace. This is a Mini Starter like the one I took off ( as fitted to the ZZ502 deluxe ) . Used the new knurled bolts as supplied with the new starter.
Do think the alignment could be wrong ? I did put a earth strap in the head of one of the bolts but it still nips up tight

Re: Starter motor problem

Sounds like a faulty starter, but that is a guess.
