Horn Relay

Im wiring my 69 with Autowires wiring harness. On the main dash wiring it has a horn relay connector, red wire 12v, green wire horn, and a black wire (assume ground). My question is where is the horn relay? I have what appears to be a relay mounted on the speed warning cable bracket, but the connector wont fit it. Any ideas

Re: Horn Relay

Lee - Well you are showing the Speed Minder Relay/Buzzer Option RPO U15 in the second photo. Set the pointer on the speedometer with the knob on the left and once you reach or exceed that speed the buzzer will sound.

The Horn Relay/Buzzer is the Swiss Army Knife of GM's electrical systems and is mounted on the radiator shroud support on the drivers side near your Voltage Regulator. The Horn Relay is also the main power bus-bar for accessories, operated the horns and was the buzzer for the key-minder in 69 when you left the key in the ignition and open the door.

If you are using the classic update harness then their are a lot of changes you have to make as the kit assumes you have updated the vehicle from Factory wiring and equipment. The classic update uses blade style fuse panel and I believe has its own electronic based horn relay that gets mounted under the dash.

The AutoWire Factory Fit harness kit retains the original locations and systems including Voltage Regulator, Horn Relay, and original Alternator specs as well as glass fuse panel.
