Horn relay

I am replacing my wiring in my engine compartment of my 67 conv.,(no power top), my horn relay is all rusted, should I also replace that, the horn seems to be working fine. Nothing else depends on that relay does it?

Re: Horn relay

For a 67 nothing else depends on the relay. But the wiring that you see screwed onto it is the main power distribution center. One of the thick wires goes to the bat+ terminal and one goes to power up your fusebox or ignition switch. Another one should go to the alternator via the voltage regulator also. If you have an underhood light then the wire for that goes there too. In 68 and 69 the relay also acted as the relay for the key buzzer which 67s dont have. Mine looks a bit crusty too but Ive cleaned up the terminals. If you took off the cover you would be surprised how nice and clean it was inside. There are actually guys that restore the cover to look new as the replacements dont have the factory stampings in the metal.

Absulutely. You dont even have to take the cover off. You can remove the relay from the firewall, tape off the bottom part and paint it a nice black. You could even paint the bracket with a nice rustoleum silver or grey with a brush. Not perfect but would probably look a lot nicer. Its also possible that your relay is already a replacement part, so you might be better off just replacing it with a new part. Prices vary wildly on these so check ebay, or rockauto, or wherever, for a good deal.
