Starter Won't engage

I have a '69 Z28 I am restoring. When I try to start the engine, the ignition switch will not engage the starter. New starter motor (jumped it at the starter.... works fine) ..... nothing. Have traced wiring and ruled out the clutch safety switch. Trying to figure out where the contacts are that come together when you turn the key to start. I know it is a mechanical linkage down through the steering column.... can someone help?? Thanks!!

Re: Starter Won't engage

Auto or manual? Auto will have a neutral safety switch, and a manual probably has a switch requiring the clutch to be on the floor. Try it in park, neutral or with the clutch pushed in.
Usually, its a big purple wire at least from the firewall connector to engine harness to solenoid. You can measure to ground at the connector and if no 12V in start position, look under the dash.
Try the manual or electrical section for wiring diagrams.

Re: Starter Won't engage

On a 69 the ignition switch is mounted on top of the column, and is activated by a rod from the key cylinder. You have to lower the column (2 nuts) to access it.
