Autometer 5" tach and speedo going in.

I have had the gauges for quite some time now just haven't had the chance to install them. My main goal is to have nothing on my steering column No tach no shift light. So I started looking at my huge 8952 MSD shift light you know the ones that take the pill. Started thinking maybe I could just use the guts of this make up a new board with LEDs and put it in my Dash somehow. Not much inside to PCB boards one for the LEDs and one for the circuitry. So I figured with a little bit of Ingenuity I can use all the parts inside of the MSD shift light to make a custom in-dash install.
So far it's coming along nicely. I drilled out where the factory high beam light is and used inverted the factory bulb holder for the high beam indicator so I would come out the front of the gauge carrier, then I could modify the LED PCB to fit the back of it with less LEDs so the light will shine through the front. I will post some pics.

Here is the led pcb, i had to remove quite few led's, but it is still killer bright. Then i drilled two holes so I could mount the pcb and high beam indicator bulb holder to the gauge bezel.

I also had to cut down the lens out of the msd shift light to fit inside the high beam indicator bulb holder

Re: Autometer 5" tach and speedo going in.

Here are some pics of the led pcb installed with the bulb holder inverted. Next i have to find a spot for the pill holder (rpm chips). Looks like i will have to cut that out of the shift light.

Re: Autometer 5" tach and speedo going in.

Thanks Doug,
I've had a tach on my column for decades Lol.
Figured it's time to go, same with the shift light. I bought a small fuel gaege to put over my console.
I cut the pill socket out and mounted it to the bottom of the gauge bezel.looks cool ill post a pic

Re: Autometer 5" tach and speedo going in.

Cut it out of shift light bezel, added a plug and epoxy to bottom right corner of gauge bezel.

Re: Autometer 5" tach and speedo going in.

I originally installed the gauges through the front of the carrier, but didn't like the way they sruck out, I did modify the original gauge holder so i could mount them from the back, looks much better.

Re: Autometer 5" tach and speedo going in.

Thanks Doug, i have to wait to install because I ordered some led's for the turn signals and they are not in yet. I did hook up everything to test, everything is working great. The shift light woked out perfect.
