Ok, this just started happening recently, but it used to happen a while back, then stopped. My brake lights stay on, then if i stomp the pedal a few times i usually can get it to stop. It's really annoying though, and already toasted one battery. Any ideas what would be causing this? and how to fix it? Thanks

Check the brake light switch mounted at the top of the brake pedal.. sounds like its sticking.

This also happend to my '67 and it was the swich Nantooch said.
The swich-clamb(?)had came loose so the swich (brake-swich) did not made contact with the pedal anymore so the brakelights were on all the time.
