Question

Ok, I started the tear down because my horn didn't work but now my turn signals don't work. The hazards do work though. I have the turn signal switch out and cleaned the contacts. I still don't get the turn signals to work. But, when I hit the brake and turn on the blinker, the corresponding tail light will go out. And when I hit the brakes with the hazards on, the hazards stop working and just stay illuminated. Ideas? Could it just be a bad switch? I'd hate to buy a new switch if I don't have to.

Sounds like power from the flasher (located under the dash near the ash tray) isn't reaching the switch. The flasher module in the fuse block is for the hazard circuit. Could be a bad flasher, blown signal fuse, bad connection at the column or a bad switch. Check for voltage on the flasher wire. I think the wire from the fuse to the flasher is pink and from the flasher to the column is purple. I could be bass ackwards on that. You can install a shorting plug into the flasher socket to see if you can get them to light up solid as a test.

This part: "when I hit the brakes with the hazards on, the hazards stop working and just stay illuminated", I believe is correct. If the same lamps are used for both brake and hazard, then they do this.

As for the turn signals check that all of the bulbs are good. A burned out bulb will cause them to not blink.

Thanks for the help. I didn't know that the hazards and signals were on different circuits and used different flashers. I replaced the signal flasher and the turn signals now work!! Thanks again. Jim
