My dash lights are very dim. I was wondering what the prevailing fix is:
1) replace with Autometer guages?
2) replace alternator with a high output or 1 wire?
3) relace bulbs and clean or replace plastic covers?
4) another approach?

You also might want to check the connections on the headlight switch. Maybe even take the switch out and clean the terminals and the wiper on the dimmer reostat. Sometimes the contacts on the instrument fuse in the fuseblock can cause a problem also a bad ground on the instrument cluster.

#3 is correct. That's exactly what I did and it worked beyond belief, just like new!
