Hi. I am having trouble with installation of my new ind. switch. I take off my steering wheel and bits but can't work out how to remove the old wiring and switch to change it.

Welcome to the board Daveboy. I'm not sure what you mean by the "ind. switch". Are you referring to the indicator switch as in the turn signal or direction indicator switch?

No problem with the terminology. Taking the column apart was what threw me. You should be able to replace the switch without pulling the wires out. It requires pulling the steering wheel off, removing the signal lever and pulling out the switch assembly.

Yes, I did that but I can't get the plug through the steering column. Are you saying that I undo the wiring from the switch and then wire in the new one? I was hoping to just put the whole new one in, including the plug.

I better defer to someone who has done what you are trying to do Daveyboy. I could be leading you astray. The weekends are slow around here. I imagine Monday you'll get some meaningful replies.

Hi guys, I'm hoping someone out there can give me some specialist advice on this issue. I have had one suggestion that involved releasing the steering column from the steering box to get the switch in, any ideas?

You should copy down the color of wire to the pin socket of the connector and remove the wires from the connector.

If the connector is arc'd, or curved, it may be a little difficult to thread through the column.

You can remove the wires from the connector by using a dental pick and releasing the locking pin from the front of the connector (the end of the connector plugging into the harness connector, imagine yourself lookin INTO the steering column harness), push the locking pin towards the terminal, and gently pull back on the wire at the same time.

Once the connector body is removed, tie a string/fishing line to the end of the wires. You should now be able to gently pull the switch and its wires from the top of the steering wheel.

Reinstall the new switch using the string to "guide/pull" the wires back down the column. Glad you put the string there, huh?

Reinsert the wires into the connector body as written the order of color as before removal. Make sure the terminal "snaps" into place. If not, youmay have to push out on the locking pin to help with locking in place.

Connect battery, turn on IGN, and test indicators for proper direction indicated.

This the way I'd do it. As dnult suggested, there may be another way to do it.

thanks guys, I couldn't work out how to get the pins out of the connector so had discounted that idea. Cheers mate.
