I've done a search on the topic and still have a few ?'s. Where exactly does the ground for the gauges from the wiring harness get attached? I see the pre-drilled hole in the rear plate for a jumper wire to screw from, but where is the best place on the front plate to go to? Do the temp. and fuel gauges need separate grounds run to the pre-drilled hole for a ground?

I had a jumper attached from the pre-drilled hole on the rear plate to the bottom post on the fuel gauge, along with the ground from the harness and it sparked at the battery.

My car is a '68 auto. with factory console gauges and all new wiring.

Thanks!
Jeff

Not sure, but I think 69 is the same as 68. My 69 has a ground wire attached to the bottom terminal on the temp gauge on one end and to a body screw on the hump, near the shifter on the other. There is an internal ground wire (you have to take the top cover off to see it) that connects both gauge backing plates together to supply ground to the front plate. Pretty sure mine is correct. Nobody has messed with it. Mine is a 4 speed Z with console gauges.

GMJIM,

So where is your ground wire from the harness attached to?

I checked my diagrams and sent them to you. 68 and 69 are the same.
The ground doesn't come from the harness. The harness has all of the wires to connect all of the gauges and lights (12 positions), from both the under dash harness and the harness from the console, but NO ground. The ground is a separate wire from the bottom connector (ground) of the temperature gauge to the body. This I believe is a 14 or 16 ga. wire.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for sending the diagrams. I'll check them out and get my gauges working soon.
