I am in the process of re-building a 67rs, pretty much started with a bare shell. No wiring no heater parts etc. I have located the heater box that goes under the dash and on the firewall. I am not wanting to put a heater control unit in the dash, as I will probably be putting gauges in that slot. My question is, since I want the defrost option can I run the blower motor with a simple toggle switch by wiring it directly to the blower motor, or do I need to use some sort of relay also? Thanks for any replies.

Without the heater controls you'd have to set the air flaps in the heater box to defrost permanently and you would have hot air coming out of the defroster vents all the time unless you reach under the dash and change them. If you're going to drive this thing any time besides the summer put the heater controls back in.

Another question I have is, Does the blower motor on a 67 just have one speed? It looks like on the control assembly pictures I have seen it is just on or off.

It's a little deceiving. The first inch or so of travel to the right opens the air vent. Go farther to the right and you hit three clicks on the fan switch, low, medium, and high. There's a resistor block that mounts on the heater box in the engine compartment that's wired to the switch for the different speeds.
