Would someone please explain to me what a tach filter is? Do all tachometers require such a filter? How does it work?

Many thanks.

It keeps spikes and interference in the ignition system from getting to the tach. Most tachs work fine without them. If you hook up your tach and it reads erratically then you will need one.

Who makes the best tach filter (e.g., build quality, etc)? Do any of you have experience with the tach filter at Classic Instruments?

Thanks in advance.

I don't have any personal experience with that company, but the filter looks like a capacitor type that is similar to the one GM used. If you haven't tried the tach yet do so before you order a filter. You might not need it.

What did the tack come out of. If it came out of an older GM car the tack will not work. 82 CHEVY trucks and cars used them some older one did not SS Moute Carlo had the. If it had one it will not work with out it.

It also attempts to keep ignition noise under the hood and out of your AM radio.
