just installed a powermaster mini starter and im having a problem with the starter pinion gear is just hitting the flywheel teeth no matter how much i shim or not shim. it seems to only engage if the starters pinion gear happens to be in perfect alingment with the flywheel teeth. this is a 69 with munci and lakewood bellhousing and sm. blk 350. any tips would be appr.

1969 camaro convertible, sm blk 350 trick flow heads, m21 muncie, 3.73 rear. hugger orange with blacks stripes. 12.90 @ 107mph

I use Powermasters all the time and have never had an alignment issue. I have autos and Muncies by the way.

I would say that the alignment is still off. Is your model the universal model that will accept both tooth counts?

Align with putting a paperclip in the mesh between the drive gear and the driven teeth.

Should work.
