engine really only needs the power to the coil to maintain the spark to run. Make sure there is 12v coming to the resistor coil, which then drops voltage to roughly 6v to the + term of the coil. Verify that your ignition sw is working and suppying power back to the fuse block, the ign fuse is good and that the resiter coil is good. As long as all that is good and you have 12v coming from the starter to the + term at cranking you should be ok.
