My guess would be the sending unit is shorted.

I can disconnect the tan wire to the sending unit in side the trunk and the gage reads over full like it should. Reconnect and back to "E" I go with 10 gallons in the tank (I poured 2, 5 gallon gas cans in.

Anyone else have this problem? And what did you do to fix it? Sending unit is new, tank is new (coated in Glisten PC), would hate to have to pull the tank out with gas in it again.

Check the sending wire- is it crimped on something or abraded? I'll bet that it got smashed between the tank and the trunk floor on reinstallation. You could try loosening the tank straps and dropping the tank a little to see if the problem goes away (use a floor jack and some plywood to support it).

Is the tank grounded? There should be a ground wire attached to one of the front shackles.

Yes the tank is grounded. The weird thing is that the old sending unit does not register resistance yet works the gauge.....strange.

I pulled the tank and traced it back to the gauge. Will dismantle the instrument cluster later this week and see what I can find.

Fixed! Some reason the sending unit was stuck, used a coat hanger and tugged on the float and watched the gauge move as it should.

Everything is peachy, now to put the tank back in again.

Oh and the Glisten still looks good!

Re: New Fuel Sender, Always on "E"

Was it stuck to the bottom of the tank? mine is and i can get the coat hanger to move it. may try a wooden dowel.
