Just venting… pulled a wire out of an existing splice on the solenoid. It needed to be properly repaired anyway, so I should just do all the wires that are old / hardened to make them all good.
I’ll get under there tomorrow morning and get started R&R the starter and splicing and soldering new-correct size wires and terminals.
Life is difficult…

WARNING!!!!
Be careful when trying this! All the old wires do need to be replaced, but be sure to do them one at a time and dont forget where they go. Also, dont try to reuse old connecters/terminal ends, these can be worse than the old wires. Use the same fuse rating too. Many people have tried to do too much too quick and messed alot up, but then again, it does pay good to fix it.
